09 - VBOX Test Suite Dashboard

The dashboard is an area where the user can display live or post process data on a series of gauges, as well starting, stopping and resetting tests when in online mode.

There are 5 main types of gauge types:-

  • Default – A standard alpha numeric representation of the data.
  • Chart – A line graph representation of the data (for use with Online mode only).
  • Target – A cursor indicates the data value on a user specified number line.
  • Angular Meter – A ‘needle’ type gauge that displays the data value on a circular gauge.
  • Level – The data is displayed as a % fill of a bar.

These gauges are demonstrated in the image below:

Arranging Gauges

Gauges cab be added by using the 'Add Gauge' button on the Dashboard top menu toolbar as explained below. They can be moved by either clicking and dragging at the centre of a gauge if using a mouse, or just by dragging from the centre if using a touchscreen device. They can also be resized by clicking and dragging from a corner of a gauge if using a mouse, or just by dragging from a corner if using a touchscreen device.

Dashboard Tab

The dashboard tab is where the user can access all the functionality of the dashboard. This tab will be displayed when the user clicks anywhere on the dashboard area and will automatically be selected.

Add Gauge

The 'Add Gauge' button allows the user to add a gauge to the dashboard. Selecting the button will open a dropdown where you can select between VBOX Channels and Test Channels.

Channels

A list of all the channels that are available within the loaded file, or that are being sent over serial from a VBOX will be displayed. Channels are grouped by type such as VBOX, Test type or connected module, and are searchable, making them easier to locate. The groups of channels may be collapsed or expanded individually, or all together using the icon to the right of the Search bar at the top of the Channel List.  Selecting one of these channels will automatically add a gauge to the dashboard area.

As well using channels from the file or the VBOX, it is also possible to add test specific gauges to the dashboard. For example in the Accel test, it is possible to display the time, distance and average acceleration of each run during a live test. All Result Column parameters are available as a gauge and the channels will be divided between gauges of different categories (i.e. test column gauges, count down gauges, default gauges and test plugin specific gauges).

Reset Dashboard

Selecting the 'Reset Dashboard' option will reset the dashboard to the test’s default layout, clearing any non-standard gauges.

Settings

The 'Settings' button will open a window that allows the user to specify the settings of that gauge. The settings available will depend on the type of gauge selected. These are as follows:-

Default
  • Smoothing Level – The level of smoothing that is applied to the gauge. A higher number results in more smoothing being applied to that gauge.
  • Decimal Places – Allows the user to modify the number of decimal places shown in the gauge.
  • Alert Condition – Specifies the conditions to which the alert should occur.
  • Alert Value – The value at which an alert will occur.
  • Text colour – Allows the user to change the colour of the text displayed in the gauge (blue by default).
  • Alert colour – Allows the user to change the colour of the alert text displayed in the gauge (red by default).
  • Flash on Alert – Allows the user to choose whether the alert text flashes.
Chart
  • Smoothing Level – The level of smoothing that is applied to the gauge. A higher number results in more smoothing being applied to that gauge.
  • Alert Condition – Specifies the conditions to which the alert should occur.
  • Alert Value – The value at which an alert will occur.
  • Show From Beginning – When this option is ticked, the chart will show all of the data, rather than just a set range of time.
  • Time Range (s) – When the ‘Show from beginning’ option is not ticked, this option allows the user to specify the period of time that the chart should show data from.
  • Update when moving – When this option is ticked, the graph will only update when movement is detected.
  • Y-Axis Auto – When this option is ticked, the graph will auto scale the Y-Axis.
  • Y-Axis Max – Specifies the maximum Y-Axis value if auto scaling isn't selected.
  • Y-Axis Min – Specifies the minimum Y-Axis value if auto scaling isn't selected.

Note: The Chart gauge will only display data and become active when online and connected to a VBOX.

Target
  • Smoothing Level – The level of smoothing that is applied to the gauge. A higher number results in more smoothing being applied to that gauge.
  • Alert Condition – Specifies the conditions to which the alert should occur.
  • Alert Value – The value at which an alert will occur.
  • Target Range – The range that the target gauge will display, centred on the Target value.
  • Target – The target number the user is trying to achieve.
  • Tolerance – This is the portion of the gauge that will be displayed in green either side of the target value.
Angular Meter
  • Smoothing Level – The level of smoothing that is applied to the gauge. A higher number results in more smoothing being applied to that gauge.
  • Alert Condition – Specifies the conditions to which the alert should occur
  • Alert Value – The value at which an alert will occur
  • Start Value – The value that the angular meter will start
  • End Value – The value at which the Angular meter will end.
  • Background – Allows the user to change the colour of the gauge background.
  • Needle – Allows the user to change the colour of the gauge needle.
  • Text And Border – Allows the user to change the colour of the gauge text and border.
Level
  • Smoothing Level – The level of smoothing that is applied to the gauge. A higher number results in more smoothing being applied to that gauge.
  • Alert Condition – Specifies the conditions to which the alert should occur.
  • Alert Value – The value at which an alert will occur.
  • Total Bars – The number of bars that will be displayed within the Level Gauge.
Alerts
Default gauges

When there is an alert on a gauge and the alert condition is met, the text colour will change from the assigned 'Text colour' to the assigned 'Alert colour' and an audible tone will sound. If 'Flash on Alert' is selected, the text will also flash.

Gauge Data

Underneath the settings button is a drop down list that allows the user to change which channel is displayed in the selected gauge. Selecting this drop down menu presents the user with all channels that are available in the file or on the live serial stream coming from a VBOX. Selecting a channel will then display this data in the selected gauge.

Gauge Type

VBTS Dashboard Tab Gauge Type.png

The user has the ability to choose between the 5 different gauge types. This is achieved by selecting an existing gauge and then clicking on one of the 'Gauge Type' buttons. This will change the selected gauge to the desired gauge type.

When a Chart gauge is added, a secondary channel can be added within the Gauge Data area to be included on the Y-axis of the chart. The Y-axis will be scaled dependent on what is chosen within the Gauge Settings. The colour of the channels can be changed by clicking on the existing colour within the legend.

Pressing this 'Help' button will automatically open an internet browsing window and load the relevant section of the Racelogic Support Centre. This page will only be displayed if there is a valid internet connection. If there is no valid internet connection, a cached version of the relevant section (from the last software update) will be presented in PDF form. This can also be accessed by using the keyboard shortcut 'F1'.

Save/Copy Image

Right clicking within the Dashboard area allows the user to either copy the view currently seen within the map window as an image to the computer clipboard, or save locally as a .png, .bmp, .gif, .jpg or .tif file.
