Performance Box Touch Not Logging to SD Card

If Performance Box Touch is not logging to the SD card, there are a number of reasons why this may be the case. If after looking at the guidance below, Performance Box Touch is still not logging how you would expect, please contact Racelogic Support.

Red SD Card Icon VBOX Touch SD Not OK.png

When the SD Card Icon at the top of the screen is red, this means that no SD card is detected or the media is full.

Ensure the SD card is fully inserted in to the side of the unit. There is an internal spring within the SD slot, you should be able to feel the SD card push against and secure against this spring. If you are having an issue inserting the SD card, have a look inside the slot to ensure that nothing is in the way.

SD Card Format

Performance Box Touch is supplied with an 8 GB SDHC card in a FAT32 file format, which is the only file format supported.

If you are looking to purchase a new SD card, it is recommended that any card used has a write speed of above 7 MB/s (4 MB/s absolute minimum) and a speed class of 10 (4 absolute minimum). Racelogic recommend SD cards from quality brands such as Transcend, SanDisk, Kingston or Lexar to ensure best results.

IMPORTANT – If an SD card is formatted in the exFAT or NTFS file formats, it will need to be reformatted into a FAT32 file system before it will work with a Performance Box Touch unit.

SDHC cards (2 GB to 32 GB)

Supplied or purchased SDHC cards are formatted in the FAT32 file format. This format is supported by Performance Box Touch.

SDXC cards (64 GB and above)

Purchased SDXC cards will be formatted in exFAT or NTFS file formats; these formats are not supported by Performance Box Touch (please reformat as per instructions below).

SD Card Reformatting
  • FAT32 reformatting for media with sizes up to 32 GB can be done directly within Windows by right clicking on the media and selecting 'Format'.
  • If you would like to format media with sizes above 32 GB in to a FAT32 file system, this isn't something that can be done directly within Windows as it is not the standard formatting for the file. However, many third party software programs can be used to reformat media to allow them to work correctly with our products - we can recommend  This Tool as a free option from the SD card organisation.

Full Media

Ensure that the SD card is not full. If it is, delete or move files from the card.

Green SD Card Icon VBOX Touch SD OK.png

When the the SD Card Icon at the top of the screen is green, this means that the SD card has been inserted correctly, has free space and is ready to log. When logging to the SD card, the Record Icon VBOX Touch Recording Button.png will appear at the top of the screen. If you are expecting the unit to be logging however it isn't, this may be due to the Logging Strategy.

Logging Strategy

Dependent on the Logging Strategy selected within the General Settings area, the unit will either log continuously or when movement is detected (default).

If logging is set to Moving (over 0.5 km/h) and the unit is not recording once movement is detected, ensure that the unit has a valid satellite lock, indicated by a solid green Satellite Icon VBOX Touch Sats Lock.png at the top of the screen.

If you are struggling to maintain a stable satellite lock, indicated by a flashing red satellite icon VBOX Touch No Sats.png at the top of the screen, refer to the Having Trouble Locking onto Satellites troubleshooting page.

Note: Tapping on the SD Card Icon when green VBOX Touch SD OK.png will manually start or stop logging data, overriding the Configured Logging Strategy.
