Introduction

Performance Test is a companion app for the VBOX Sport, which uses a high accuracy GPS receiver to enhance the capabilities of your iPhone. This app requires a connection to a VBOX Sport to collect performance data. Without this connection you will only be able to see a demonstration of its capabilities, it will not allow you to measure the performance of your car.

Collecting GPS data at 10 times per second, the VBOX Sport provides a level of accuracy currently unheard of with iPhone and iPad apps. Our Performance Test app uses this data to provide you with acceleration, deceleration and VMAX information for your vehicle previously only available to professional Racelogic VBOX users. You can quickly and accurately measure your 0 – 60 acceleration time, turn your test track into a dragstrip and measure your 1/4 mile time and trap speed. Different modes allow you to measure your braking performance and zero to zero times, all using the same VBOX technology used by all the major motor manufacturers and car magazines around the world.

All of the apps functionality is available when you are connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device running iOS 7.0 or later. If you are not connected to a VBOX Sport, the app will launch in demo mode to allow you to sample the features.

The bottom bar of the app features the 4 menu areas: Test, Results, Setup and Config.

Setup Menu VBS PT App Setup Icon.png

Mode

Select between Acceleration, Brake, Zero to Zero and Dyno tests. Ticking the desired test will change the Test Display.

Note: Only one test mode can be run at any time.

Customise Tests

This section is used to define test ranges. Only one range can be set for Zero to Zero tests, but there is no limit on the number of Acceleration or Brake tests. To define a range, press the test you would like to customise.

Note: Distance acceleration tests will calculate Mile, ½, ¼ and 1/8th Mile results automatically.

Adding an Acceleration Range

The Acceleration Test is set to start from 0 by default, however it is possible to change the start speed of the test by entering a value within the Start Speed option. Altering this speed will also allow you to perform a Speed to Distance Test (for example 5 mph to 300 ft). If the start speed is altered, Distance range results will include the set start speed in brackets next to the distance header.

You can also add either custom Speed or Distance test ranges.

Speed Range

By default, the Acceleration Test has five speed test ranges: 0 – 60, 0 – 100, 30 – 70, 50 – 70 and 60 – 130. However, if you would like to add a custom Acceleration Test speed range, ensure the Speed button is selected and then press the plus icon plus_button (1).png at the top of the screen. You can then scroll to the desired From and To speeds and confirm by pressing the OK button. The new range will then be added to the test range list below.

Note: If you are intending to use 'One Foot Rollout', The lowest Acceleration speed test range that can be set is 0 – 10 mph. If a value lower than 10 mph is set, the test will fail to complete along with all subsequent tests set.

Distance Range

By default, the Acceleration Test has three distance test ranges: 100, 200 and 400. However, if you would like to add a custom Acceleration Test distance range, ensure the Distance button is selected and then press the plus icon plus_button (1).png at the top of the screen. You can then scroll to the desired Distance and confirm by pressing the OK button. The new range will then be added to the test range list below.

Test Menu VBS PT App Test Icon.png

This screen shows a live speed readout and allows the user to activate a test session and capture results. The test displayed is dependent on what is chosen within the Setup Menu.

The Bluetooth icon bluetooth (1).png at the top of the screen indicates whether the VBOX Sport is connected to the device.

Acceleration Test

By default, the user must hit ‘Start’ to begin a test. Test ranges will populate as soon as the values are met. When the test is finished, the results will be automatically brought into view. If 'Show Recent Results' has been selected within the Config menu, the last three results will be displayed below the current results. By pressing on these, the results can be viewed in more detail.

After viewing, the user must hit ‘Reset’ and then ‘Start’ before starting the next test.

Acceleration tests end when VBOX Sport detects deceleration.

accel_test (1).png

Note:

If multiple acceleration test ranges have been customised, the test will end when deceleration is detected and will not restart until the lowest speed over all the ranges has been met. Any acceleration after the end of the test that fails to start from the minimum speed condition will not be populated within the results.

For example, if the acceleration test was customized into ranges as below, the test would finish once deceleration has been detected and could not be manually started/ would not auto restart (if Auto Reset is enabled) until the vehicle is at the lowest condition (i.e. 0 mph). If the vehicle was to accelerate through 30 – 70 mph or 80 – 120 mph once the test has ended, these results will not populate.

  • 0 – 100 mph
  • 30 – 70 mph
  • 80 – 120 mph

If the acceleration test was customized into ranges as below, the test would finish once deceleration has been detected and could not be manually started/ would not auto restart until the vehicle is below 30 mph. If the vehicle was to accelerate through 80 – 120 once the test has ended, these results will not populate.

  • 30 – 70 mph
  • 80 – 120 mph

If 'Performance Delta' has been enabled within the Config menu, during the test, a green or red background will show live whether the current test run is quicker or slower the last.

Note: With ‘Auto reset’ turned on within the configuration section, tests will automatically restart after the first start condition of the defined test(s) is met.

Brake Test

By default, the user must hit ‘Start’ to begin a test. Test ranges will populate as soon as the values are met. When the test is finished, the results will be automatically brought into view. If 'Show Recent Results' has been selected within the Config menu, the last three results will be displayed below the current results. By pressing on these, the results can be viewed in more detail.

After viewing, the user must hit ‘Reset’ and then ‘Start’ before starting the next test.

Brake tests end when the VBOX Sport detects a speed value of zero.
