VBOX Power Backup Info

Product Overview

The VBOX External Power Backup is a product designed to be used with the VBOX 3i and IMU04.  The purpose of the product is to prevent the VBOX 3i and IMU04 losing power during a test when the vehicle power supply is temporarily interrupted, such as a scenario where the vehicle stalls.

By maintaining power supply to the VBOX 3i, the product prevents the need to repeat system initialisation procedures, including the vehicle manoeuvres required to calibrate the IMU Kalman filter.

Function

Connected between the vehicle power supply and VBOX 3i unit, the VBOX External Power Backup is capable of storing enough energy to keep the VBOX 3i and connected IMU04 operating during a vehicle power supply interruption of up to 20 seconds.

When an input power supply interruption occurs, the VBOX External Power Backup will start to discharge, and a continuous tone will be sounded.  Once the energy store is depleted, the sounder will become inaudible, and power to the VBOX 3i and IMU04 will be lost.

The VBOX Power Backup requires an input supply voltage of 10 V or higher for over 60 seconds to provide the full 20 seconds of backup power.

Input power supplies between 6 V and 10 V will allow power to pass through to the connected VBOX 3i and IMU04, but will not provide charge to allow Power Backup functionality.

Warning: If additional Racelogic units or modules are used, the Power Backup duration can be significantly reduced.
