VBOX 3iS Robot Modes

In situations that require the use of autonomous driving robots rather than human test drivers, you can use VBOX 3iS with robot systems from ABD (Anthony Best Dynamics), DSD (Dr. Steffan Datentechnik) or Vehico.

Configuration

You can configure Robot Mode in the VBOX 3iS settings, using the front panel or VBOX Manager

ABD Robot System

You can use VBOX 3iS in conjunction with an ABD Robot system to perform Open Loop or Path Following testing. When you select the ABD option in the settings, you get to define the type of testing that the VBOX unit and ABD system will be performing.

When this mode is enabled, the following settings will automatically be applied to the unit:

ABD Open Loop

  • Dynamic Mode – High
  • CAN Output Rate – 100 Hz
  • IMU Integration – Disabled
  • CAN Baud Rate – 500 kbit/s
  • CAN Termination – Enabled

ABD Path Follow – Single Antenna

  • Dual Antenna – Disabled
  • Dynamic Mode – High
  • ADAS Mode – Enabled
  • CAN Output Rate – 100 Hz

  • 603 – Z-Accel

ABD Path Follow – Dual Antenna

  • Dual Antenna – Enabled
  • Dynamic Mode – High
  • ADAS Mode – Enabled
  • CAN Output Rate – 100 Hz
  • DGPS Mode – RTCM v3
  • IMU Integration – Enabled
  • IMU location – Internal
  • Robot Blend Mode – Enabled
  • CAN Baud Rate – 500 kbit/s
  • CAN Termination – Enabled
  • Ethernet Output – ABD
The following CAN IDs will also be switched on:
  • 307 – Lateral Velocity - Roll Angle - Longitudinal Velocity
  • 308 – Position Latitude
  • 309 – Position Longitude - Speed
  • 314 – Slip Centre of Gravity - Sats - Time since midnight UTC - Robot Heading

The following CAN IDs will also be switched on:
  • 308 – Position Latitude
  • 309 – Position Longitude - Speed
  • 314 – Sats - Time since midnight UTC - Robot Heading

DSD Robot System

You can incorporate VBOX 3iS into the DSD Ultra Flat Overrunable (UFO) Robot system, as an onboard UFO controller or set it to operate in the subject vehicle. Select the DSD option in the settings to define if the VBOX is to be used in the UFO or in the Vehicle.

When this mode is enabled, the following settings will automatically be applied to the unit:

DSD UFO

  • Dynamic Mode – High
  • ADAS Mode – Enabled
  • CAN Output Rate – 100 Hz
  • DGPS Mode – RTCM v3
  • DGPS Rate 9600
  • IMU Integration – Enabled
  • Roof Mount – Disabled
  • CAN Baud Rate – 500 kbit/s
  • CAN Termination – Enabled
  • Robot Blend Mode – Enabled

DSD Vehicle

  • Dynamic Mode – High
  • ADAS Mode – Enabled
  • CAN Output Rate – 100 Hz
  • DGPS Mode – RTCM v3
  • DGPS Rate 9600
  • IMU Integration – Enabled
  • CAN Baud Rate – 500 kbit/s
  • CAN Termination – Enabled

The following CAN IDs will also be switched on:

  • 308 – Position Latitude
  • 309 – Position Longitude - Speed
  • 314 – Sats - Time since midnight UTC - Robot Heading

Vehico Robot System

VBOX 3iS is compatible with the Vehico robot systems, allowing you to complete high-accuracy ADAS tests. You can select this in the settings.

When Auto Configure is selected, the following settings will be automatically applied to the unit:

  • Dynamic Mode – High
  • ADAS Mode – Enabled
  • CAN Output Rate – 100 Hz
  • Hi Dynamic Kalman Filter – Disabled
  • Robot Blend - Enabled
  • DGPS Mode – RTCM v3
  • IMU Integration – Enabled
  • CAN Baud Rate – 500 kbit/s
  • CAN Termination – Enabled

The following CAN IDs will also be switched on.

  • 329 – Position - Y Position
  • 32A – Vehico Robot Head - Speed - Position Quality - Solution Type
  • 600 – Yaw Rate - X Acceleration

Note: You must set the datum point and track direction. If you have two or more vehicles under VEHICO control, these vehicles need to reference exactly the same datum and track direction, which you can ensure by using the Sync to target option when you are setting up your ADAS system.
