Using LabSat 4 With Network Attached Storage Devices

This article will give an overview of the requirements and steps for using LabSat 4 with a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device.

In addition to recording to and replaying from the internal SSD, you can use Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices with LabSat 4 units to transfer and replay scenario files.

Requirements
  • Gigabit network connection to the NAS device.
  • Compatible size of files to be replayed:
    • The current maximum rate is 105 MBps.
Setup and Connection
  1. Set up the NAS device as required based on the NAS device manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Create a new shared folder as per the NAS device manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Connect the LabSat unit to the shared folder on the NAS device.

3.1 Open the Web Server for your LabSat 4 unit.
3.2 Open the System Setup menu.
3.3 Locate the NFS Mounts section and click on the Add new button.
3.4 Enter the relevant information in the Add new NFS connection pop-up and click on the OK button.
    Name

Use a meaningful name for the connection, for example, MyNAS.

You cannot use spaces in the name.

    Server

Enter the IP address of the NAS device and the name of the shared folder that you want to connect to.
The IP address will change depending on the network settings.

    Example: 192.168.0.48/LabSatNAS
Username Enter the username for the NAS server you want to connect to.
Password Enter the password for the NAS server you want to connect to.

    Notes:

    • If the NAS device is not account-protected, you can leave the username and password empty.
    • If you are setting a password, it must not contain any spaces or any of the following special characters: !?#@%&{}*$'`<>\":+|=

3.5 Click on the Connected toggle switch for the new NFS mount to enable the connection.
Recording to a NAS Device

You can access the storage on the NAS device directly via the LabSat 4 Web Server, however, recording scenarios directly to the NAS device is not supported. Recording should always be directly to the LabSat internal SSD.

You can still use the NAS device to store and replay scenario files.

See below for more information about how to transfer recorded files from the internal SSD to the NAS and how to replay files directly from the NAS.

Note: Only available on LabSat 4 (RP) units.

Data Transfer with NAS Devices

You can access the NAS storage via two different methods for transferring data, either via a web interface or via Windows File Explorer:

  • To access the web interface, you must enter the NAS IP address into an internet browser.
  • To view the NAS storage in Windows File Explorer, enter \\ in the address bar followed by the NAS IP address.

For fast transfer to and from the NAS storage, we recommend that you attach a USB 3.0 SSD caddy. You can remove the internal SSD from the LabSat unit, insert it into the SSD caddy and connect the caddy to the NAS device for fast file transfer.

Replaying from a NAS Device

As you can access the storage on the NAS device directly via the LabSat 4 Web Server, you can replay scenarios directly from the NAS device.

  1. Go to the Record and Replay / Replay menu.

This menu displays the available media locations.

  2. Select the relevant Directory in the Subdirectories section. The page will re-populate with the available subdirectories and recordings in the folder on the NAS device.

The Recordings area will list all available scenario files in the NAS folder, including file information such as channel configurations.

  3. You can Play, Rename and Delete scenario files by clicking on the respective button for a relevant file.

IMPORTANT

To replay files directly from the NAS device, the files must have a bandwidth of less than 105 Mbit/s and the network speed must be sufficient.
