This App can be used within the Tyre Temperature Monitoring System (TTMS) to provide drivers with a real-time display of the temperature across the width of each tyre. This provides drivers with an immediate insight into what is happening to their tyres on track; invaluable information when setting the optimum brake bias and tyre setup for a race.
The responsive, colour display offers a visual representation via 64 individual heat maps, as well as live and maximum temperature values.
In order to use this app, you must also purchase the Racelogic Tyre Temperature Sensor kit (RLACS272).
The sensor display is split in to four areas representing each tyre; front left tyre (top left), front right tyre (top right), rear left tyre (bottom left) and rear right tyre (bottom right). For each tyre, available information includes a visual heat block temperature representation, live temperature and maximum temperature achieved.
Each sensor measures 16 temperature spots across a tyre surface. These 16 temperature channels are visually represented by heat blocks on the main screen. The colours of the heat blocks will blend between Blue, Green, Yellow and Red, with Blue being the minimum temperature and Red being the maximum temperature.
A live temperature value is displayed on the screen in numerical form for each sensor. Each temperature value displayed on the screen is an average of the 4 most central temperature channels for that particular sensor. If a temperature reading is not being received, '--' will be displayed.
The TTMS app will store the highest measured temperature from each sensor and display these on the main screen. '--' will be displayed until a temperature reading has been received.
Note: These max temperature values appear greyed out to prevent driver confusion.
The max temperature values are saved after a power cycle and can be reset using the reset button on the main screen footer.
The 4 LEDs at the top of the unit provide visual feedback dependent on what process is being performed:
- Overheat Temperature: If the Overheat Temperature is met, the LED's, which represent the RL, FL, RR and FR tyres, will illuminate Red and stay on until the temperature drops below the overheat temperature for 1 second.
- Screenshot: If a screenshot has been saved successfully, the LEDs will illuminate yellow in sequence from left to right to display the progress of writing to the SD card.
The Satellite Icon displays the current GNSS status. More information on the different GNSS states can be found here.

The CAN Data Icon displays the status of the CAN connection between the tyre temperature sensors and the tyre temperature display. When CAN data is detected, it will display as green . When no CAN data detected, the icon will display as red .
The SD Card Icon displays the status of the recording media. When an SD card has been inserted and has free space, it will display as green . When no SD card is detected or the media is full, the icon will display as red .
Tapping on the icon when green will manually start or stop logging data, overriding the Configured Logging Strategy.
The Record Icon will show when the unit is logging data to the SD card.
IMPORTANT – The SD card shouldn't be removed when the Record Icon is on as you may lose data.
Selecting the Reset Button on the bottom of the screen will reset all maximum values.
Selecting the Screenshot Button will save a full image of what is shown on screen to the inserted SD card. If the screenshot has been saved successfully, the LEDs will illuminate yellow in sequence from left to right to display the progress of writing to the SD card. When screen capture is complete, VBOX Touch will emit an audible confirmation notification. If the screenshot has been saved unsuccessfully, for example no SD card is inserted or the card is full, the SD Card Icon at the top of the screen will flash 3 times and VBOX Touch will emit an audible error notification.
A captured image is saved as a 1.5 MB bitmap image, orientated at 90° to the original screen image, with the prefix 'screenshot'.
IMPORTANT – NEVER remove the SD card when a screenshot is being taken, it could cause the unit to crash!
The Tyre Temperature Monitoring System App Settings menu is available by selecting the Settings Button on the bottom left of the screen.
There are 2 main App Settings menus available which can be accessed by selecting the Forward and Back arrows on the bottom right of the screen or by swiping the screen left or right. General Settings and Diagnostics Settings menus are also available.
Sensor Settings Screen
To save the settings and return to the main screen, select the Exit Button on the bottom left. All settings are saved after a power cycle.
This menu contains minimum, maximum and overheat temperature options.
Values are changed by simply pressing the Blue Circle and sliding it up or down. The Plus and Minus buttons can be used for more accurate temperature value selection.
Allows you to define the minimum temperature value for the heat blocks. For example, if a minimum temperature value of 30°C is defined, then any temperature reading of <30°C will appear Blue.
Allows you to define the maximum temperature value for the heat blocks. For example, if a maximum temperature value of 120°C is defined, then any temperature >120°C will appear Red.
The Overheat Temperature slider allows you to define the temperature value at which the overheat LEDs are activated. Once activated, they will appear Red and stay on until the temperature drops below the overheat temperature for 1 second. Each LED represents a tyre as defined below.
The temperature units can be changed between Celsius and Fahrenheit. This option will auto scale the numerical temperature values on the temperature settings screen and the main screen.
To change the units, simply press the button next to Temperature Units. The button will display the current selected units.
This menu contains sensor number, orientation and direction options.
Settings can be changed by pressing on the corresponding button next to an option. The button will display the currently selected option.
The user can change which set of heat maps a sensor is assigned to. This is required if the sensors have been installed at the incorrect corner, preventing the need to manually swap the sensors around on the vehicle.
To change which sensor is assigned to which set of heat blocks (FL, FR, RL, RR) simply press the small number button to scroll between sensor 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The temperature sensors can be mounted on top or underneath the vehicle chassis. When mounted on top of the chassis with the mounting surface facing down, the sensors are in a ‘Normal’ orientation. When the sensors are mounted underneath the chassis with the mounting surface facing up, the sensors are in an ‘Upside down’ orientation.
This setting must be configured correctly to ensure the heat blocks are in the correct order on the main screen.
To change the orientation setting, simply press the orientation button. The sensor image on the screen will change accordingly and the button will display the current orientation setting.
The temperature sensors can be mounted in front of the tyre or behind the tyre. The settings must match the direction of the sensors on the vehicle to ensure the heat blocks are in the correct order on the main screen.
To change the direction of the sensor, simply press the direction button. The sensor and the heat blocks will swap position to confirm the change and the button will display the current direction setting.
This menu contains units, logging mode and brightness options.
- Speed: Allows you to change the speed units between km/h (default) and mph. Changing the speed units will affect all visual speed parameters on all screens, unit labels will change and all speed values will be automatically recalculated. Tap the button to change the units.
- Distance: Allows you to change the distance units between metres (default) and feet. Changing the distance units will affect all visual distance parameters on all screens, unit labels will change and all distance values and results will be automatically be recalculated accordingly. Tap the button to change the units.
- Logging: Allows you to toggle between 2 logging modes, tap the button to change the mode:
- Continuous: The VBOX Touch will start logging as soon as an SD card is inserted and initialised.
- Moving (default): The VBOX Touch will start logging as soon as an SD card is inserted and a speed over 0.5 km/h is detected. Logging will pause when speed is less than 0.5 km/h for 3 seconds, and will then recommence recording once speed is greater than 0.5 km/h, appending the same file.
- Manually pressing the SD Card Icon will manually start and stop recording, irregardless of which logging mode is set.
- A new data file is created every time the VBOX Touch starts/stops logging, data is not appended to an existing data file.
- Screen Brightness: You can manually adjust the screen brightness between 5 levels, with 1 being the dimmest and 5 being the brightest setting. An 'Auto' setting is also available which uses the internal ambient light sensor to automatically adjust the screen brightness. In dark conditions, the screen brightness will dim, and in light conditions the screen will brighten. Tap the button to cycle through the available options.
- LED Brightness: You can manually adjust the LED brightness between 5 levels, with 1 being the dimmest and 5 being the brightest setting (this is extremely bright!) or turn off the LEDs. Tap the button to cycle through the available options, the LEDs will preview the brightness level.
- System Time/ Date: This displays the current time and date being used by the system.
- Sync to GPS: This feature will synchronise the internal real time clock (RTC) to GPS time as long as the unit has obtained GPS time (no GPS time is indicated by a red satellite icon), isn't moving and isn't logging. When pressed, a synchronisation progress screen is presented.
The Diagnostics menu is the final screen within the Settings menu, it displays basic GPS receiver and VBOX information.
The satellite icon at the top of the screen is the quickest way to determine if the unit has a valid satellite lock. When lock is acquired, it will display as solid green . When there is no satellite lock, the icon will flash red .
- Cold Start: Press this button to perform a cold start on the VBOX Touch. This means the receiver will clear any data currently stored within its internal memory. It may be required to do this when the GPS engine has locked up or the VBOX Touch is struggling to acquire satellite lock.
When the button has been pressed, the unit will make an audible sound and a ‘PLEASE WAIT’ message will be displayed on the screen which will count down from 3. The number of satellites will then be displayed as '00' and GPS status will show ‘SEARCHING FOR SATELLITES’ until satellite lock has been acquired. It will take approximately 25 – 30 seconds for the unit to reacquire satellite lock.
- Satellites: Displays how many satellites the receiver is currently using.
- VBOX Touch RTK units: If using an RTK variant VBOX Touch, there is also a separate satellite constellation count to the right of the satellites number. GPS, GLONASS (GLO), Galileo (GAL) and Beidou (BDS) constellations are displayed. The constellation not selected within the GNSS Selection area within the General Settings menu will be greyed out.
- GPS Status: This indicates the current GPS lock/RTK status of the unit: When the unit is searching for a valid satellite lock, ‘SEARCHING FOR SATELLITES’ is displayed. When the GPS receiver has acquired satellite lock, one of the following will be displayed:
- STANDALONE: Position computed from GNSS only.
- CODE DIFF: Position computed from assisted SBAS corrections.
- RTK FLOAT (VBOX Touch RTK only): Position computed from GNSS corrected by RTK. Float means the GNSS receiver is still calculating the integer ambiguity, a small error will be present on the position computation at this time.
- RTK FIXED (VBOX Touch RTK only): Position computed from GNSS corrected by RTK. Fixed means the integer ambiguity is established and the optimum position correction is applied resulting sub 2 cm relative accuracy in good conditions.
This section displays the device serial number, firmware version number and hardware version number. This information is useful in the event of troubleshooting a potential issue with the VBOX Touch device.
Depending on the Configured Logging Strategy, the TTMS App will log a standard .vbo data file containing all standard GPS parameters plus all 16 CAN parameters from each sensor, 64 in total.
